CASE STUDY: VINTAGE MACHINE REPAIR

Challenge

ISSUE:

A customer came to us during the restoration process of his vintage cordial machine from the 90’s. For this particular machine, parts are no longer available to purchase from OEM companies, which makes restoring the machine like new, near impossible.

The search for second hand parts that might fit is a challenge and can come with additional costs when needing to be replaced more frequently.

Solution

Not having a seal profile that would be suitable for such a niche request meant that a custom seal needed to be designed.

By taking an existing SP15 special seal profile, a modified version was drafted to meet the customers specific needs and machine requirements based off of a sample of the machines old seal that the customer provided us with.

The machine repairs also need to be able to hold up to the cold refrigerated temperatures that the inner vessel of the machine is kept at. We used a strong silicon material that won’t be damaged over time due to any colder temperatures or condensation.

This material and unique seal profile also allowed the glass vessel that holds the cordial liquid to be held securely and tightly but with consideration of slight but regular movement when the machine automatically stirs the liquids, and allows for potential friction that may occur with that consistent movement.

CLIENT REPORTED:

Customer reported that the cordial machine is now successfully up and running like new and the seal is effectively withstanding the refrigerated conditions. While normal wear and tear may occur due to frequent use over-time, the customer can rest assured knowing that the new seal, designed specifically for their needs, will last much longer than a second hand part and won’t need replacement for many years to come, ultimately providing our customer with a cost-effective and personalised seal solution.
